Two artists under one roof, Kathy Rooney & Ray Sokolowski.
A merger of talent via the combined studio of Kathy Rooney & Ray Sokolowski provides a myriad of colorful, figurative art that is well known.
Rooney & Ray Arts, Inc. was formed by Kathy & Ray who are wedded in life and in art, as illustrator & fine artist. They have each created many artworks for corporations, the film industry, institutions, and private art collectors.
Vintage inspiration with modern appeal best describes KATHY ROONEY's illustration style. Her freelance business took off in 2001 when she was commissioned by the Pittsburgh Steelers to create a 62 ft. x 13 ft. digital mural depicting a panorama of Pittsburgh & its sports venues for the front of their Practice Facility. Having sold hundreds of prints, Gicleés of the mural are still popular among Steelers fans worldwide and can be found in her Shop section. Since creating the Mural, she has illustrated city scapes and maps for Duquesne University, Point Park University, Empire City Casino in New York. Kathy also created 11 historical illustrations for a feature science documentary, "UNDAUNTED, The Forgotten Giants of the Allegheny Observatory", a film that can be seen on PBS. Many of the historic Observatory images are available as note cards in this Shop.
Kathy is a Board Member of the Pittsburgh Society of Illustrators.
RAY SOKOLOWSKI spent 25 years of his life working as Installation Specialist at the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh where he contributed to the presentation of fine art works. By being able to touch and study the Masters up close, it was like he was mentored by them. He continues to work as a painter & sculptor and his work as been on extended display at The Heinz History Center Sports Museum in Pittsburgh, the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, OH, is a part of the permanent collections at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort & Spa in PA, St. Bonaventure University in NY and in numerous private collections such as Art Rooney, Jr. Ray was also commissioned to create four large paintings for noted Hollywood producer, Jimmy Miller. Ray's Shop section features prints of his paintings depicting his Pittsburgh South Side childhood, his travels in Italy, and views of Rehoboth Beach, DE.
Ray's most noted artistic achievement is a detailed cast sculpture of the vintage 23-member football team, "The 1923 Hope Harvey Football Club" which was the first Pittsburgh team managed & owned by the legendary Art Rooney. The 8ft. long sculpture is now a part of the Hardy Family Art Collection at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort & Spa. A second edition of the sculpture is owned by an investment firm in Boston, MA. This sculpture was a part of the Pittsburgh Steelers 75th Anniversary Exhibit at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.
